There is nothing that makes me feel more alive than seeing a new make up collection unfold right in front of my eyes. Add a theme party, a couple of cocktails and throw one of the best make up artist in the industry, and I'm sure you'll catch me breathless.

Well, Laura Mercier definitely made me catch my breath in excitement weeks ago when they unveiled their latest collection; - Art Deco Muse.

Just seeing that poster at the entry aisle of Prive added a dash more of blissfulness in my already happy state. But of course, that was just a small teaser. Inside, I was greeted with a lavish 1920's-themed party and withoverflowing cocktails!

And to kick the party a notch higher, renowned (and uber funny) make up artist, Jeffrey Tasker was formally introduced to the crowd. Oh boy, he was definitely a ball of energy that night!

Jeffrey has always had a great desire to learn and share his knowledge with others. He believes education is the cornerstone of being the best at what you do. Knowledge for both clients and artists creates enthusiasm, and excitement is empowering. “I keep my client’s needs and interests at the top of my priority list”, says Jeffrey of his approach at counter. Jeffrey listens to his clients to create skincare regimens, Flawless Face wardrobes and color palettes that meet their expectations. “I want my clients to envision me as an updated and educated makeup artistwho will enhance their natural beauty and give them the necessary tools to be the confident and empowered women they are.”

And the highlight of the show was when the pieces from the Art Deco Muse Collection were revealed.

The Trend: Laura’s inspiration for 2012 draws from her background as a fine art painter and focuses on the mood and attitude of women through different art periods. For the holiday season, Laura was inspired by the decorative architecture, style and mood of the Art Deco period in Paris in the mid-1920’s, most notably the beautiful paintings of the artist Tamara de Lempicka. The beginning of ‘great modernism’ brought about a very distinct and designed decorative movement. Laura created rich makeup shades of gold, red and black to beautifully contrast each other and add sharp definition that is geometrical, powerful and beautifully ornamental.

The Look: Golds and bronzes are paired with high-shine reds and deep blacks to make this eye-catching colour collection stand out. Eyes are sharply designed and defined —lined in black, with gilded shimmering eye colours as a beautiful golden background. Lips wear super-shiny red lacquer—boldly painted on to make a stunning statement. The face is contoured, sculpted, and a true work of art. Nails are painted in rich shades of red and noir.
