Good skin health doesn’t have to be a luxury reserved for the Kardashians of the world, you just have to make the right choices to stay on the best path to accomplishing great skin goals!
The relationship between skin health and quality sleep can be such a positive cycle, even more so when the routine is less of monotonous and more like something you do because you want to feel good and look great, for yourself.
In essence, and many people with skin conditions will know, if you get low quality sleep it can lead to increased stress hormones in the body, this can flare up the severity of inflammatory skin conditions such as acne.
The results can include more itching, which will probably affect your sleep, and nobody wants that now, do they? It’s one of those rubbish cycles you don’t really want to be part of, so it’s always best to be in the positive, beneficial cycle I mentioned earlier.
Sound sleep is a sure-fire way to help you succeed in living with clearer skin, and both combined will improve skin health in general. But, just in case you needed a little more convincing, or maybe just some helpful information to take away, here are six reasons why getting enough sleep is the saving grace for skin health and your health in general:
1. Wholesome sleep aids existing skin conditions
By consuming those forty winks, you’re eradicating the opportunity for increased inflammatory responses to flare up. Wave goodbye to conditions like acne breakouts, worsened skin sensitivity, and dermatitis reactions/irritants happening so much.
Combine this with any advice and treatments from your GP or dermatologist and you’ll be your glowing best before you know it!
2. Sleep prevents the ageing process
Yes, you read right! While your mind and body are indulging in deep sleep, your growth hormones rise, giving damaged cells time and attention to be repaired.
If you aren’t in the deeper sleep phases then you can’t benefit from this. It’s a bit like having your own VIP section at the club; you can be asleep, but all the perks are in the deeper phase. there. The results? More visible signs of ageing and no one wants that now, do they?
3. Vigorous sleep is the gateway to showing off your skin's natural beauty
You always want to reduce increased inflammatory cells in the body because these lead to the breakdown of hyaluronic acid and collagen. It’s these molecules that let your skin glow, allowing you to show off it natural bounce, and stunning translucency!
You’re on just beautiful on the inside and sleep knows it!
4. More sleep equals more beauty!
While you're sleeping, the body's hydration rebalances. Skin is able to recover moisture, while excess water in general in the body is processed for removal. Not getting enough sleep results in poor water balance, leading to puffy bags under your eyes and under-eye circles, as well as dryness and more visible wrinkles.
5. Good sleep stops unwanted weight gain
Sleep is pretty good if you want to stay on target for your goal weight. This is actually good for your skin too. Get that quality sleep under your belt and you won’t feel so hungry during the daytime, so you won’t feel the need to snack on things you know you shouldn’t/don’t need to.
6. Sleep helps you show your confidence
Maintaining confidence is a big part of life and having an issue with your skin can dent that. But, by getting tip-top z’s in you can keep your self-esteem high and let that shine through that healthy skin of yours.
If you have a well-rested brain, it will produce chemicals like serotonin that not only help you to feel content and happy, they also help you function well. You’re bound to present your best self when this happens, and if you feel good, it will show.
This led me to draw on my experiences, even when all I needed was the right mattress, I found that there was a lot more to it than that. Without all of these things, my journey wouldn’t have led me to the point where I can help many more people today. Happy health, people!
